Yesterday early morning three flags were flown from the Paranal flag poles, the Chilean, ESO and Union flag. This was in expectation of the arrival of six Members of the British Parliament. They arrived around midday and as customary given the tour of Paranal and the telescopes.
In the evening some of us from Serco were invited to cocktails and dinner. It was a great opportunity to meet MP's. They I imagine were relaxed, Paranal is not a big Political melting pot, and we ourselves felt at home. For the most part of the night I was lucky to be speaking with Kevin Barron MP. Conversations shifted from the NHS to those missing WMD with lots in between.
